EDIT: The Billboard article about the Grammy Awards 2010 was simply an opinion poll, not for nominations. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.

Well first off, they aren’t new artists. They have been known for awhile now in the United States. Secondly, I don’t think that Automatic should be the song nominated. I like it- but World Behind My Wall should be the nominated song.

@Shay: Technically they are still new in the US, and song should be a released single. WBMW won’t be released until the 22nd in the US, but nominations will close on the 3rd.

This would be something big for them!. I have to admit I didn’t voted for them for Song For Record of the Year because I feel that Gaga deserves that one. I like her so that’s why I think that category fit Lady Gaga very well.

I’ll vote for all three, but that’d be cool if they won Best New Artist. Because then they win as TH as a whole, and not just for one song or one album.
Fans can’t vote for the Grammys… only the members and record companies can do it!!
How the Grammy Awards are decided:
The process begins with members and record companies submitting entries, which are then screened for eligibility and category placement. The Academy’s voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the final voting process which determines the GRAMMY winners.
Submission –
Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process.
Screening
Reviewing sessions by more than 150 experts in various fields are held to ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields such as Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Gospel, New Age, Rap, Classical and Latin, among others. The purpose of screenings is not to make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but rather to make sure that each entry is eligible and placed in its proper category.
Nominating
First-round ballots are sent to voting members in good dues standing. To help ensure the quality of the voting, members are directed to vote only in their fields of expertise; they may nominate in the four general categories (Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine (9) out of the 29 fields. Ballots are tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Deloitte.
Special Nominating Committees
In craft and other specialized categories, final nominations are determined by national nomination review committees comprised of voting members from all of The Academy’s Chapter cities.
Final Voting
Final-round ballots are sent to voting members in good dues standing. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included in this ballot. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight ( of the 29 fields. Ballots again are tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Deloitte.
Results
Results of members’ voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.
@Marc- Okay. I never knew when the closing was for nominations- so I understand why it couldn’t be WBMW. But I still don’t they’re new. I hope they get Best New Artist, though. =]
This is a poll for BillBoard, this has nothing to do with the Grammy choosing the nominees.
And tokio hotel’s album and song automatic can’t be nominated cuz the album was released after the period of elegibility.
I’m just voting cuz this is a poll for BillBoard and for them that doesn’t matter cuz there are other artists that BillBoard selected who also released albums before or after the period of elegibility.
And fans don’t vote for the Grammys, this is just BillBoard asking for fans opinions.
We might not be taken seriously if we vote TH into categories das don’t yet apply as far as what THe industry’s view ist.

Guys the most imortant one is “Best New Artist”. If you’re going to vote make sure you vote for at least that one, especially because it’s a once in a lifetime kind of thing. They’re not going to be “New” forever, but they can win the other awards anytime.

Umm please. I like TH but the Grammy’s are an American awards show meant to reflect what was popular in America. It would simply be unfair for them to win anything at the Grammys. They’ve had no significant impact in the US as far as their music goes.
I’m almost positive that fans have no say on who gets nominated and who wins. Only industry voters have ther say..and the best new artist is awarded to the artist that released music within the eligibility year that made a significant impact on their career. TH aren’t at that point yet..they’re still relatively unknown in the American market so until they really start to appeal to the public they will not be nominated

@Blah ummm It has nothing to do with where the artist is from…U2 is from Ireland and they have won more grammy’s than any other band ever. correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I’m right. I think it has more to do with popularity and talent

Yes, but I think you’re forgetting that U2 is extremely popular in America, and that they’re an originally English speaking band so it doesn’t make nearly as large of a difference. Also, they’ve been around for ages.
@kissicysun I realize that. But I was only pointing out that U2 is not from america but have won grammy’s. I guess I was implying that if Tokio Hotel were to ever become as popular as U2, they would have as much a chance at winning a grammy as any other american artist.

No need to generalize ALL Americans into one category calling them ALL oblivious. ppl are just saying that TH wasn’t recognzed in the states just a few years back even tho they have been around for quite some time. Most of the time only American artists hit it big in America with the exception of a few others of course like coldplay, U2, the beatles… And it’s the American fans who have made them famous in America so no need to call them ignorant or anything else for that matter. Every country has it’s share of ignorant people and I am pretty sure your country does too and my country prolly does too.
